Gaubert's lovely Madrigal challenges students with enharmonics/accidentals and coordinating the rhythm with the accompaniment. I edited the piano accompaniment to suit the flute and allow for breaths. I also added some parts for the first flute so the piece can be fully performed as a duet without piano. Enjoy this wonderful piece!
In this arrangement, I wanted to create a duet version that would stand alone while still being true to the original solo and accompaniment. I eliminated the introduction and cadenza and edited some moments for clarity. I hope students and teachers will enjoy learning this edited version as well as appreciating the original.
Bozza's beautiful "Aria" has been a favorite of mine since I first heard the piece. I teach it frequently to students. It requires great emotion, breath control, and some finger precision. I hope you will enjoy sharing it with your students. A video/recording sample is coming soon!
Often flute teachers do not have access to a piano or a skilled accompanist when teaching a piece, but we know it's so important for students to understand the underlying harmony and structure of a piece for their complete understanding. I'm creating arrangements of standard flute solos as duets for a teacher and student to fill that void. My aim was to create an accompaniment line that stayed as close to the piano part as possible, but still fit nicely within the range of the flute and stayed true to the spirit of the original piece. I hope you will find them useful for your students!
